In these difficult economic times it becomes extremely important for transportation and logistics professionals to be perceived as adding economic value to their respective companies. If you don’t want to become a “cutback victim” of the recession, don’t be viewed as “that guy”:
- That guy who no one really understands what he does.
- That guy who is stuck in a rut doing the same thing day in day out.
- That guy who doesn’t understand the value of technology in transportation and logistics.
- That guy who didn’t take advantage of the current transportation market conditions to get lower freight rates
- That guy who is invisible to the key decision makers.
- That guy who can’t solve the nasty freight accrual problems.
- That guy who never brings a new idea to the table.
- That guy who doesn’t have shipment and order visibility.
- That guy who says “we tried that before and it didn’t work”.
- That guy who has a ton of computer reports but no actionable “information”.
If you’re not “that guy” with any of these characteristics, there a strong probability you’re making a real contribution and being recognized for it. But if you’re wearing some of these hats, it’s time to think transformation and act on it.
